Gradient is perched on an island hillside meadow, surrounded by forest, overlooking the Salish Sea at the border of Washington state and British Columbia.
There is no cost to attend, other than covering your own travel and food.
We can currently accommodate up to 6 residents at any one time.
We are particularly interested in hosting work on:
- writing of any kind
- open source tools and novel programming environments
- scientific computing and bayesian inference
- mapping, GIS, and UAVs
- computer music and generative art
- CAD/CAM and small-scale fabrication
- most especially, any intersections between these things
Work
Gradient has many quiet nooks and corners for focused work, but there’s always the opportunity to show your progress or talk through a thorny problem with one of the other residents.
There’s nothing like going for a walk when mulling something over. The property backs right onto a huge parkland with forest trails, beautiful views, and a sandy beach.
The main house has three guest bedrooms for residents, a superb kitchen, huge decks for sunny mornings and a cosy wood stove for cool evenings.
The studio provides an airy, open-plan co-working and presentation space along with a quiet upstairs loft.
The shop has a laser-cutter, large-format CNC, 3D printer, and electronics workbench.
At the bottom of the meadow is a covered outdoor stage for talks and performances.
