The software world fetishizes the new, even with their community events such as Hacktober.

What were the collective spring cleaning looks like for the open source community? I’m thinking no new features, just things like dependency updates cleaning things up re-factoring improving documentation.

I’m inspired by groups like The Maintainers and folks that are thinking of software more ecologically (compost mag, digital gardeners).

A spring cleaning for software especially makes sense for projects that don’t have a continuous development those that are household projects versus industrialized pieces of technology. But even large project could benefit from us spring cleaning. An extension of spring cleaning could even extend to the environmental impact of products. Like, what could be done to react-map-gl library to reduce its environmental footprint.

Does calculate your environmental impact for your AWS services exist?

Spring cleaning is the practice of thoroughly cleaning a house in the springtime. The practice of spring cleaning is especially prevalent in climates with a cold winter. In many cultures, annual cleaning occurs at the end of the year, which may be in spring or winter, depending on the calendar.
